Contents: Leonardo Sciascia is one of the most important Italian writers of the 20th century and his work is more than any other closely linked to Italian and especially Sicilian history. The starting point will be a novel centred on a famous historical case of pseudo-translation (Il consiglio di Sicilia) in the age of enlightenment. With the help of this novel we want to deal with certain aspects of Italian and Sicilian history and then turn to some fundamental questions of regional identity in Sicily. The focus here is on the Sciascian concept of Sicilianità.
