This course is designed to introduce you to the major cultural, social, and political movements and trends in United States of America from the late nineteenth- to the early twenty-first century. You will study specific cultural phenomena and political movements in recent American history and learn about their respective ideological underpinnings. Our readings will encompass a variety of textual genres, including speeches, commentaries, presidential addresses as well as historical background materials. We will also discuss sociological and even philosophical positions about contemporary American cultural issues.
