Dear Students,

Before the first (DIGITAL) lesson takes place, I would like to give you now the following recommendation/task:

- Please register on ILIAS (online learning platform):  The entire course communication will be carried out via this platform.

Possible from October 27th, 2020

Contents:
Students will learn about different types of text forms and how to recognise, plan, structure and to formulate them appropriately in English.

The relevant forms of the four text types will be introduced (via Audio Files on Ilias) so that the students can then compose the texts themselves.

The use of selected expressions, which are useful when drafting texts will be provided on Ilias and practised.

Furthermore, the course teaches how to distinguish between the different types and forms of expression of speaking and writing and which vocabulary and which structures and rules of text formation are required in each case.

The focus of this Online course is to practice writing. Autonomous learning is also expected!. That means students are also expected to practice the written text forms outside the classroom.

Evaluation:  Every week homework will be assigned. It will be evaluated and given a grade.

Requirements: Participation. Erasmus students have to take and pass an exam at the end of the semester, in order to receive a grade.

Recommended reading list:

Teaching material will be provided. See ILIAS:

Additional information:
- exchange students are welcome. However, numbers are restricted and you need to have a good knowledge of English (especially written English)

- exchange students accepted on the course need to pass an exam at the end of the course in order to receive a grade.

- listeners (Hörer) are welcome, but please speak first with the lecturer, Caroline White-Göttsche, because numbers of participants are restricted.

Digital teaching:
The whole course can be found on the learning platform ILIAS. You have access to all the material you require to complete this course.

In addition to the normal written material, you will also find audio files giving you information, instructions and tips.

After each weekly homework, either an online video lesson will be arranged with the lecturer via Skype-for-Business OR an audio file will be uploaded giving you feedback.  Notification of a video lesson will be sent to students prior to the online lesson.  It is expected that all course participants attend these lessons or notify the lecturer when it is not possible, e.g. for technical reasons, etc.

So not to overwhelm students with too many video lessons every week, it is planned in the STP course to alternate video conferencing with audio files.
