Course Objectives:
This course is meant to convey both the complexities and the pleasures of translating and to prepare students for the module examination to be taken in July 2020. It is also designed to train and improve the following abilities and competencies:
– linguistic competence in the native language
– linguistic competence in the foreign language
– competence in textual analysis
– the ability to produce professional texts
– the ability to comprehend texts in all their complexity
– communicative competence
– research competence
– cultural competence
– translation and transfer competence (translation strategies, skopos, etc.)
– rhetorical and terminological competence
– self-evaluation and proofreading
– time management
Additional information:
Corpus of Texts: We will translate and discuss intermediate-level informative and humorous texts on diverse topics.
Nota bene: Since, for organizational reasons, the module examination will take place on July 9, 2020, from 16:20 to 17:50 in the Audimax, students who have classes with Ms. Boyer, Dr. Fantinuoli or Dr. Hagemann are expected to contact me in the first session, so that we can arrange for a special date of examination.
