Priority scheme: Senatsrichtlinie zzgl. Bevorzugung höherer Fachsemester

Requirements / organisational issues:
Please note: this will NOT be a translation practice class! All participants in this seminar will assume the role of a translation Project Manager for a 50-page project involving the translation of a journal issue on a specific aspect of economic sustainability. The translation work will be done by students in a separate Übung -- but under your guidance and supervision!

Please note that our regular class period (8:00 a.m. Wednesdays in Room 151) will be attended VERY RARELY. Most of your work will be done from wherever you wish via SLACK (an excellent online communication tool). You will surely need to meet with one or two PM team members over the course of the semester, but you will be able to organize those meetings as you wish.

Each of you will also be involved in the design and implementation of one of the four introductory workshops that will provide the Übung students with basic knowledge and skilss in the areas of: terminology management, peer revision, Memsource and professionalsm. So each of you will need to attend one of the workshops (during one of the first four Wednesdays of the semester, from 14:40-16:10 (Room to be announced).

Please note that every effort will be made by the instructor to ensure that this PM experience corresponds well to PM work in the professional world of translation. You will have plenty of support from the course instructor, but you will also be given a great deal of responsibility for developing and polishing your own project management skills. The instructor is able to recommend MOST of the students who complete this course for work placement or even regular employment positions in the area of project management.

Please note: it DOES NOT make sense to attend this class if you have not already taken an Übung in authentic translation project work with Don Kiraly or Sarah Signer. New PMs need to already have the experience behind them of having worked as a member of a translation team on such a project before they try to manage other translators' work!
