Contents:
In the course we deal with the two sub-topics "German language for interpreters" and "German cultural studies for interpreters".
Sub-topic "German language for interpreters"
During the sessions we deal with the following key questions and aspects to train our language skills:
- How are speeches structured, what is their purpose? Together we analyse speeches in an interpreting oriented manner.
- Exercises for learning conference vocabulary and developing German terms and phrases in a conference environment
- Basic information and tips on terminological preparation of assignments and presentation of CAI tools/terminology management tools
Sub-topic "German cultural studies for interpreters"
"Keep to the subject and the words will come." (Marcus Porcius Cato Censorius, Roman scholar, 234-149 BC): General and background knowledge plays a decisive role in the everyday life of an interpreter. All too often a (future) interpreter becomes aware of how many knowledge gaps need to be filled. Political and cultural general knowledge, on which this course focuses, turns out to be a particularly fundamental field of knowledge.
Based on the above-mentioned book series "Basiswissen für Dolmetscher und Übersetzer", we will deal with the topics of politics, public administration, business and the media from an interpreter-oriented and Germany-oriented perspective.
The aim of the course is to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of the above-mentioned contents, which will serve the participants in their studies and later in their professional life.
