Requirements / organisational issues:
- Subtitle Workshop: We work with the program Subtitle Workshop which is freely available on the Internet. You can either use the computers offered in the computer rooms of the CAFL, on which Subtitle Workshop is already installed, or you can download the software to your laptop and bring it with you to class.
- Seafile: We will use the platform Seafile to provide the audiovisual material and to submit the subtitles. Further information will be provided in the first session.
- Headphones/earphones: Please also bring your own headphones/earphones as, depending on the course of the session, subtitles may need to be produced during the class.
- To pass the course, active and regular participation as well as regular delivery and presentation of subtitles is required.
If a grade is required, then in addition to active and regular participation and the regular submission and presentation of subtitles, the submission of a "learning diary" is required. Further information will be discussed in the first session.

Contents:
Subtitling requires technical but also translation skills. The complexity of the audiovisual media requires a specific approach to the text.
In the course we will discuss general technical and formal basics as well as creating subtitles ourselves. Subtitles are usually created outside class hours and discussed in class.
The audiovisual source materials are informative videos, commercials, commercials and a short film in French, Polish and Spanish.
The course language is German. Translation and subtitling will be done from French/Polish/Spanish into German.
