Requirements / organisational issues:
This course is intended for students with Chinese as (one of) their foreign language(s).
There is no deeper knowledge or understanding of trade, economics or commerce required for this course, although it would be helpful, of course. However, what is expected from students is a definite willingness to engage in the search for terms and translation solutions with some tenacity, not just on "the internet" but also in various reference works and monographies.

Participation in this course requires a good command of the German language as we are going to translate from Chinese into German.

Contents:
It seems quite natural that foreign trade is the one area of trade and commerce in which the need for translations is most salient. In this practical course we shall translate various texts about topics relating to foreign trade. It is intended to select texts of different text types which mainly deal with the actual execution of import and export transactions. Gaps in our knowledge about these things will have to be closed by consulting appropriate background material.
