Contents:
This Übung serves on the one hand to acquire and consolidate language skills in Latin, and on the other hand to gain access to central Themes of early church history.
Accordingly, the work with and on the Latin source texts will occupy a large space, with a focus on grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.
The participants prepare short translations at home, which will be discussed in the group. The workload is determined according to individual capacities.
Our source texts are all classical "top texts" from church history. Our thematic discussion will play a greater role than would be the case in a mere language course. Using these texts, examples of leading protagonists, theologians, topics and events in early church history are to be discussed which will also make it clear that any meaningful discussion can never succeed without a proper philological penetration of the sources.
