The course deals with Old Assyrian texts, most of which originate from the context of Anatolia during the time of the Old Assyrian trading colonies (2nd mill. BC). These are economic texts - contracts, deeds, loans, sales - but also letters. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of the Old Assyrian grammar as well as the ductus and the syllabary of the Old Assyrian cuneiform script. The historical and cultural context of the texts as well as the interactions of the Assyrian merchants with the native population of Anatolia will also be illuminated.
