All students in Germersheim are expected to acquire translation competence during their translation training. This will allow them to work as a professional translator or interpreter when they graduate. But what exactly is translation competence? What makes a trained translator special? And how can translation competence be acquired? In this seminar, we will try to find answers to these questions. For this purpose, the following topics will be covered:
- translation competence models
- interpreting competence models
- measuring competence
- competence and translation behaviour
- competence and translation products
- competence and cognition
- empirical investigations of translation competence
All students will participate in a small study within this course. Students will have to give a presentation and will have to write a term paper.
