Requirements / organisational issues:
This course was designed for students with Chinese as (one of) their foreign language(s).
There is no huge amount of knowledge or understanding of technology required for this course, although it would be helpful, of course. However, what is expected from students is a definite willingness to engage in the search for terms and translation solutions with tenacity, not just on "the internet" but also in other media, including technical books.

A good command of German is a prerequisite for participation in this course as we are going to translate from Chinese into German.

Contents:
In this course we are going to translate texts of various kinds about motor vehicles and their subsystems as well as texts about other technical things. (There are students who suggested we could translate, for example, texts about medical engineering.) To manage the technical terms encountered in our texts, we shall develop a glossary together.
The kinds of texts we shall look at will most probably include: popular introductions to technical contents, user manuals, repair and maintenance manuals as well as product descriptions.
