Contents:
This proseminar will focus specifically on the science fiction genre in North American literature through its historical relevance and socio-cultural background, with specific attention to its interactions with different media, technologies, scientific and political developments. SF’s representative themes and topics will be explored through philosophical speculation, and literary and rhetoric analysis. Additionally, movements that the genre saw from the beginning of the 20th century roughly until 2000's will be explored with regard to utopian narratives, the dystopian turn, afrofuturism, feminism, cyberpunk and postmodernism.
