Requirements / organisational issues:
The course aims at developing linguistic skills in Romanian as a foreign language by translation. The materials are selected based on the learners' interests to illustrate oral and written discourse. Vocabulary and grammar quizzes help to improve communicative practice and understanding of speech acts in various settings. Intercultural aspects are taken into account in discourse comprehension, as the first step in the translating process.
Content:
Diverse textual typology. Contrastive analysis elements – Romanian-German.
Practice, on the basis of :
a) text selection at the beginning of the semester: general culture (civilization, history, science, technology, education, arts) and literary texts of medium complexity to be approached throughout the 14 classes
b) weekly text selection approaching current issues, to be discussed during the next seminar.
Activities:
Working with bilingual and monolingual dictionaries. Using grammars. Vocabulary, morphology and syntax.
LRT1: Identifying key words and topic ideas. Text interpretation and intra-linguistic paraphrase in Romanian. Question-answer tasks. Grammatical translation.
LRT2: Interlinguistic paraphrase (Romanian-German) of speech acts.
Evaluation: 120 min. Text types – 3 texts:
1) news, current issues / general culture text;
2) novel / short-story excerpt;
3) informative / descriptive / explanatory / narrative text.
LRT1: Answering questions about texts and translation with vocabulary and grammar difficulties.
LRT2: Text translation (Romanian-German).
Aims / Results / Competences:
Medium complexity written text and multimodal discourse comprehension. Identifying textual, conversational, grammatical, lexical basic organization, and simple argumentative structures. Oral and written communication based in text interpretation. Translation Romanian-German.
