Requirements / organisational issues:
This practice class provides an introduction to the translation of medical texts (English - German). At the end of the semester you will have to complete a translation test that you have to pass in order to successfully complete the practice class.
The source texts (i.e. the texts to be translated) as well as other study materials will be provided via Moodle.
A translation of a medical text will be assigned each week and worked through during the lesson. The translations will be uploaded on Moodle. We will discuss them via MS Teams and during our On-Campus meetings. The homework assignments and self-study assignments are mandatory.
Contents:
Function-, target-group and text-type-oriented translation of medical texts from English into German. More information on the topics and the use of translation tools and aids are given at the beginning of the semester.
Additional information:
Exchange students are welcome.
Exchange students (Erasmus) will be required to take an exam at the end of the course in order to receive a grade.
Digital teaching:
For the digital teaching in this class, we will use the Moodle platform. We will use MS Teams for all online meetings (Tuesday from 2.40 pm to 4.10 pm), where we can directly discuss the various translations and translation problems. It is expected that all course participants attend these meetings or notify the lecturer when it is not possible, e.g. for technical reasons, etc.
Additionally, we will meet three to four times in Germersheim (at class time: Tuesday from 2.40 pm to 4.10 pm). I will tell you the dates of our On-Campus meetings at the beginning of the semester.
