Modul 13 (Mag. Theol.): Christwerden in heutiger Kultur und Gesellschaft

The lecture is aimed at students of theology (M 13 Mag. Theol.) as well as students of economics and takes into account as far as possible the different previous knowledge and interests of the two groups. The lecture will work with PowerPoint presentations, which are available for download on ILIAS. In addition, further materials, links and an online discussion forum will be offered.

In view of the very high workload of the course for students of economics and business administration, active participation is mandatory for students to write a short review (2-3 pages) of a book on business ethics that has been selected from a list of recommended literature and read during the lecture. The reviews are made available to other listeners on the ILIAS learning platform.
In addition, all listeners must write three (at least 1000 characters [incl. spaces] long) contributions to the discussion forum in the course of the semester.

Contents:
Can an organization of economic activity based on the principles of free competition and profit maximization be ethically justified? Certainly only if it is possible to tame the market through an ethical framework and to cushion social and ecological risks. In the lecture a topography of central ethical problems of economic activity will be presented, an ethical theory of social and ecological market economy will be developed and concrete proposals for solutions to current challenges will be discussed. In some cases, central insights of the tradition of Christian-social-ethical thinking will also be consulted.
