Workload per semester (see Modulhandbuch): 21 hours in class (1,5 hours per week) plus 99 hours of private study (approx. 7 hours per week)
Contents:
This class will focus on different aspects of language variation and change in TV shows. Participants may select their area of expertise from a number of different topics, shows and linguistic features. Both synchronic variation as well as diachronic change (in real or apparent time) may be considered. We'll be working with different corpora, tools, methods and analysis types, both qualitative and quantitative.
course requirements:
- group work on a related research project, the results of which will be presented (format to be determined; poster, video or talk)
- careful reading and preparation of assigned texts for the relevant sessions
- designated questioner for two presentations
- assignments: Literature Research & Corpus Linguistics
- seminar paper (check the Guidelines for Writing Seminar Papers for details)
