The lecture series aims to enable students to work with mainly two approaches: narrative theory (post-classical narratology) and novel studies (informed by contextual approaches). The lectures provide a frame of linguistic and cultural reference on which the students will be able draw. Central to the course are the following three learning objectives:
• to analyse narrative devices used in novels;
• to describe and categorize reading experiences such as empathy;
• to place landmark British novels in their socio-political context.
A short exam will conclude the lecture series (please check your exam regulations "Prüfungsordnung" if you have to take it).
