Learning objectives 

The aim of the course is to provide participants with a solid foundation for the further course of studies regarding academic work and writing. At the end of the course participants will understand the fundamentals of academic research and scientific writing within Translation Studies and they will know how to apply the theoretical knowledge in practical exercises.

Throughout the semester topics discussed incude: 


  • What is Academia/Scrience?
  • What is academic/scientific research and writing? 
  • Basics and methods of Translation Studies (research, empirical work and statistics)
  • Text-type oriented writing 
  • Scientific writing (e.g. structuring a thesis or term paper, formulating research questions, etc.)
  • Correct citation
  • Efficient collection and analysis of different sources (print, online, other).


Method 

The course is offered as a blended learning measure, i.e. face-to-face events are supplemented by the possibilities of cooperation offered by the Internet and new media. The participants are therefore expected to have basic media competence or the willingness to deal with new media. Therefore, participants should bring an internet-enabled device to each session.

Successful completion of the course requires participants to hand in all work on time and complete all home and group work tasks.
