Imposing skyscrapers, innovative materials and constructions, emblematic forms or ecological high-tech buildings - large private companies have played a major role in shaping the architectural history of the 20th and 21st centuries. The lecture will explore how major corporations strategically used their headquarters as visual media to promote their products, influence their public image, and construct a corporate identity. Away from a history of style focusing on the signature of famous architects, it shows the large part that companies as clients can play in the appearance of buildings. In this context, architecture is seen as a visual communication medium that always sends out messages.
