This lecture will be offered in hybrid format as circumstances permit. This means the following:
All Power Point presentations will be available recorded in Moodle on their respective dates. At the request of the participants, face-to-face sessions can take place, in which there is an opportunity to ask questions about the content, to comment on it and to discuss it. The sessions on 23.11.2022, 11.01.2023 and 08.02.2023 have been fixed as fixed attendance dates; on these dates, participants are expected to answer written questions on the presentations of the three previous sessions and corresponding topics. Participation in these written participation examinations is mandatory for passing the lecture.

Contents:
This course will provide an overview of the basics of linguistics in general and of the linguistics of the Romance languages Spanish, Portuguese and French. It will cover influential linguistic theories as well as the levels of description of language (phonetics/phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics), sociolinguistic topics of multilingualism and variety linguistics as well as concrete connections between linguistics and translation.
