Introduction to Conference Interpreting Dutch-German Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting
This class will introduce participants to the basics of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting and to working in the interpreting booth. The Introductory Class is intended to help prepare students for the MA Translation with a focus on conference interpreting and as such will provide first glimpses into the world of conference interpreters.
This class can be taken in the context of the old and the new BA program and all interested students are welcome!
Compulsory attendance:
The is no mandatory attendance requirement for this class. However, in order to pass this class, students need to perform at least six times during term time. Performances must include at least 3 consecutive interpreting performances and at least simultaneous interpreting performances.
Contents:
This class will introduce students to the basics of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. During the course of the semester, students will be introduced to different interpreting settings, and they will have ample opportunity to try out the different modes of interpreting.
This class also introduces students to the interpreting profession as such and the work environment and prospects of conference interpreters.

All required materials will be provided for you during term time. There is no required reading list.
Additional information:
Headphones will be provided for all students. Students are, however, free to bring their own headphones if they wish. Students should be equipped with a note pad (max. DinA 5) and enough pens.

This class is taught on location and in person at the Germersheim Campus.
