Priority scheme: Senatsrichtlinie zzgl. Bevorzugung höherer Fachsemester
Requirements / organisational issues:
The course credit is achieved by writing a 10-12 page portfolio at the end of the semester containing the four practical AD exercised worked on during the course. In it, students should be able to justify their translation decisions and strategies for the individual exercises as well as reflect on their learning progress throughout the semester. Further information on the preparation and content of the portfolio will be announced at the beginning of the course.
This exercise is designed as a weekly in-person attendance course.
Contents:
This introductory course looks at audio description (AD) from a cross-linguistic perspective. After a brief theoretical introduction to the history and development of audio description and an overview of the current AD guidelines in Germany, Spain, France and the UK, students will have the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice and create their own audio descriptions using selected audiovisual materials in both German and the respective foreign languages. In this way, the linguistic, culture-specific and technical challenges of creating AD will be illustrated and discussed together.
