The adjectives "small" and "great" are popular in literary historiography; one naturally speaks of great works, although a binding measure of size can hardly be found. The same applies to other words that are often used to refer to ancient texts. It seems that what is classic and valuable cannot be defined, but only be recognized. The lecture is dedicated to this phenomenon. But it takes the path of antonyms. We will look at what is small or has been scaled down. We will consider small forms, including epigrams and epitomai, and poor works i.e. those that have remained unfamiliar or unpopular. What do they tell us about greatness and worth?
