This lecture provides an overview of the most important epochs of antiquity. In addition to insights into the development of the world of states and historical spaces, the political and social structures from the archaic period to late antiquity (ca. 800 BC - 600 AD) in particular are presented and deepened for classical Greece and the Roman Republic.

A time line, literature recommendations, the lecture plan and excerpts from the study book accompanying the lecture will be made available in Moodle.
The lecture will be held digitally (see note "Digital teaching" below).
The lecture discussion will be offered at least five times in presence (Thurs. 10.15-11.45).
The one-hour final written examination will take place in the last week (Thurs. 8 February 2024) of the lecture period as a presence examination.
Due to open questions regarding examination law, no examinations are (yet) offered for these lectures within the framework of the RMU study programme.
Digital teaching:
The lecture will be offered exclusively digitally, whereas the discussions accompanying the lecture will take place in presence during the lecture period.
The weekly lecture consists of 2-3 videos (30-60 minutes) each week, which are available via Moodle.
