Inhalt: Eye-rhyme? Enjambment? Ephitalamio-what?* This seminar will reactivate your knowledge of and about English poetry. It will equip you with the necessary tools and strategies to analyze poetic texts, and consolidate the competences you have already acquired in your Grundseminar. You will enhance and challenge your ideas about the nature of poetry over time as well as acquaint yourself with a variety of texts by English poets from Milton to Duffy. A reader containing primary and secondary texts will be provided at the start of the seminar. If you want to make use of the semester break, you can consult John Lennard for a recap of important terminology and Terry Eagleton for his approach on how to read a poem. (*ephithalamion: a poem celebrating a wedding)
