Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Das Seminar wird von unserem Gastdozenten Dr. Jakub Lipski, Kazimierz Wielki University, Bydgoszcz (Polen) unterrichtet.
Inhalt: This class will offer in-depth readings of selected Robinsonades coming from different historical and national contexts. The emphasis will be put on the genre’s adaptability and potential to engage with various cultures’ discourses of dominance and imperialism. Each of the weekly meetings will centre on one literary text, which will be discussed with reference to its cultural background as well as being interpreted with the help of contemporary critical theories (including feminist, post-colonial and eco-critical perspectives).
Empfohlene Literatur: Reading list (it is recommended that you read some of the following before the course begins) 1. Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe, 1719 (any critical edition) 2. Anon., The Female American, 1767 (eds. Michelle Burnham, James Freitas. Peterborough: Broadview, 2014).
