Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: It is recommended that you have successfully completed Culture Studies I and/or Culture Studies II in American Studies before you attend this class. Students enrolled for the B.A. program in American Studies (major and minor) will be evaluated according to a written exam at the end of the semester (Modulprüfung).
Inhalt: This course is intended as an introduction to the political system of the United States. In this class students will not only learn about the three branches of government, the development and changes of American party politics , the role of elections and civic participation, but also the changing role of media in US American politics. The central premise of this course is that American political institutions have repeatedly and successfully adapted to social, political, and cultural changes over the course of time. This class will also feature guest lectures by two leading experts on American political history. Further details will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
