Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: The aim of this advanced seminar is to critically engage and reflect on current concepts and utopias of globalisation, development and alternatives to globalisation. Students learn to differentiate and contextualise the role of different actors and perspectives (e.g., national policies, supranational institutions, non-governmental activists, civil society, etc.) on global entanglements. Students also learn how to transfer theoretical and epistemological ideas to “real world” issues – as a preparation for your later work life. In each session, we are looking into a selected topic, for which all participants prepare themselves beforehand by reading a pivotal text. Some topics can be of conceptual nature, some can look further into regional examples, some can consist of a specific perspective etc. We will work with open and innovative formats of presenting your elaborated ideas on the given subjects and a final poster session to bring all discussed strands together in form of a symposium in the last session. This will help you to summarise and discuss the subjects to prepare for the individual oral exams of 20 min. (second week of February 2023). All details will be given in the first course on November 2. Assignments: preparatory readings, engagement in seminar activities and discussions, moderation of one session (20 min.), poster preparation and discussion in a closing mini-symposium. Examination: Individual oral exam (20 min.)
