Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: The lecture "Amplitudes and precision physics at the LHC" (08.128.764) will be given online in the summer term 2021. The platform BigBlueButton will be used. The course will use the flipped classroom concept: Written material will be distributed to the students before the lecture, which the students are supposed to read before the lecture. In the lecture we will discuss the material. The web site associated to this course is https://particlephysics.uni-mainz.de/weinzierl/feynman, where all relevant information will be posted. The lecture starts on Monday, 12.04.2021 at 16:00h (s.t.) at https://bbb.rlp.net/b/wei-bfv-bpv-731 at BigBlueButton. In the first lecture organisational issues will be discussed, physics topics will start on Wednesday, 14.04.2021.
Inhalt: The lecture course focuses on Feynman integrals, which are the essential tool for precision calculations at the LHC. Students should be familiar with special relativity on the physics side and the theory of complex functions (i.e. Cauchy's residue theorem) and differential forms on the mathematics side. A knowledge of quantum field theory and/or algebraic geometry is helpful, but not a prerequisite. The relevant topics from these fields are introduced as they are needed. Topics to be covered are:
