Inhalt: Effective theories are a powerful framework to describe and understand a vast range of systems, from particle physics to neural networks and machine learning. The concept of factorizing physics at different length, time or energy scales is closely related to effective theories and an essential element to be able to calculate cross sections such as those at the Large Hadron Collider. We will examine some of the common tools and concepts used in effective theories and factorization. We will take a closer look at the use of factorization at Hadron colliders and relate the derivations in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) with derivations in Soft-Collinear-Effective Theory (SCET). We will discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of the effective theory approach.
