Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: digital; 5 sessions of 90 minutes each synchronously, dates are to be determined (March-May 2022) Teilnahmevoraussetzungen None, except the willingness to deal with the issue of structural racism and to express oneself in a non-discriminatory way in discussions. Anforderungen Active participation in discussions in the seminar sessions; detailed engagement with one aspect of the topic in small groups and creation of a "learning product" on it (details will be settled at the beginning of the seminar).
Inhalt: The seminar is part of an international project on racism in higher education within the FORTHEM Alliance, coordinated by the FORTHEM Lab on Diversity and Migration (more information here). We invite students from all the FORTHEM partner universities to participate in this seminar (Palermo, Valencia, Dijon, Opole, Riga, Jyväskylä). It combines two elements: - Participating in the public kick-off event and lecture series, consisting of 4 lectures with external keynote speakers on different aspects of the general topic (or listening to the registrations of the lectures) and - Participating actively in five digital seminar sessions related to the topics of the lecture series, with discussions of additional literature. Every lecture will consist of two short keynotes from two different national and disciplinary contexts and the possibliity to ask questions to and to discuss with the keynote speakers. The seminar sessions should make possible to link the theoretical input from the lectures more closely to the actual situation at the universities. Based on the exchange in the seminar sessions, the participants will work on one specific aspect and present their perspective on it to the group / possibly also a broader audience. The topics of the lectures will be the following; the dates are to be confirmed: - Kick-off: “European Universities as White Spaces? Challenges and Visions” (04.03.2022, 10:00-13:00) - 1. “Structural racism in our societies and in higher education from an intersectional perspective: Key concepts and state of research“ - 2. “Education as a white space: Insights from history and educational theory” - 3. “Discriminating and liberating science: An antiracist perspective on natural sciences and humanities” - 4. “On the way to racism-critical universities in Europe: best practices, dangers, perspectives” Lernziele - Participants engage with central concepts and theories regarding (structural) racism and normative whiteness in Europe, as well as the current state of research on racism in higher education. - They connect these theoretical insights with reflections on the concrete situations and experiences in their own universities. - They critically reflect on strategies how to reduce discrimination and exclusion.
Zusätzliche Informationen: Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kruip Kruip studierte Katholische Theologie und Mathematik (1975-1981),war Assistent am Lehrstuhl für christliche Sozialwissenschaften an der Uni Würzburg (1985-1995), danach Direktor der Katholischen Akademie für Jugendfragen (1995-2000), des Forschungsinstituts für Philosophie Hannover (2000-2009) und ist seit 2006 Professor für Sozialethik an der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät der JGU Mainz. Geprägt haben ihn u.a. mehrere Aufenthalte in Lateinamerika (v.a. Mexiko), die Mitarbeit in verschiedenen Beratungsgremien der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz (v.a. in der Sachverständigengruppe Weltwirtschaft und Sozialethik) sowie ein langjähriger Einsatz für die Reform der Katholischen Kirche. Edith Wittenbrink M.Ed., geb. 1992 - 2011-2018 Studium der Fächer Spanisch, katholische Theologie und Italienisch (Bachelor und Master of Education) an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz - seit 06.2019 wissenschaftliche Assistentin an der Abteilung für Christliche Anthropologie und Sozialethik bei Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kruip an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz
