Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: The concept of ethnic writing presupposes that within a dominant culture of a nation, there are distinct ethnic groups that preserve an awareness (cultural memory) of their specific heritage. Ethnic writers give voice to their respective groups' unique experiences in terms of history, culture, language and tradition. In this course, we will focus on ethnic short stories by Chicano/a writers, Jewish American writers and African American Writers. The reading includes: Rudolpho Anaya, "The Silence of the Llano" Gloria Anzaldúa, "Ghost Trap/Trampa de espanto" Shalom Auslander, "The War of the Bernsteins" Octavia Butler, "Bloodchild" Abraham Cahan, "The Providential Match" Charles Chesnutt, "The Goophered Grapevine" Sandra Cisneros, "Never Marry a Mexican" Gloria DeVidas Kirchheimer, "Goodbye, Evil Eye" Langston Hughes, "Slave on the Block" Bernard Malamud, "The German Refugee" Paule Marshall, "Reena" Sergio Troncoso, "The Last Tortilla" Alice Walker, "Abortion"
