Wer in der ersten Sitzung unentschuldigt fehlt, verliert den Anspruch auf den Seminarplatz (Entschuldigung per Mail an Dozent*in ist ausreichend, kein ärztliches Attest erforderlich).

Inhalt:
The course will give the students an opportunity to gain some knowledge about the climate-energy challenges in Europe in their political, social, economic, legal and environmental context. The seminar will start with the review of major global climate and energy challenges, like: greenhouse gas emissions, global warming, ozone layer disturbances, de-forestation, soil exploitation, drinking water deficit, species diversity threats, carbon leakage, and many others – with strong emphasis on European perspective. Reconstructing the historical development of supranational energy policy in Europe - from Paris and Rome Treaties, through December 2008 EU summit conclusions, up to the Green Deal for Europe - allows to identify the main EU’s climate and energy policies’ pillars. Then they structure the course content, which includes: cross border energy market(s) building process (liberalization / de-regulation – re-regulation), CO2 emissions (European and global trading schemes, limits, capture and storage), renewables (limits, green certificates, policy goals, perspectives) and energy efficiency. In the face of the most recent developments on the European energy markets, special attention will be dedicated to the question of energy security. In the final session a debate shall take place focusing on the issues of energy solidarity, the future of energy and climate policies in Europe, as well as the prospects for the pan-European energy community.
