Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches: Special course for Exchange students. The course is taught in English. It is offered from SoWi?So! from the Faculty 02 Social Sciences. Exchange students: Please add the course to the course registration formular for exchange students and contact your "coordinator" for admission. Your coordinator can register you in Jogustine, or you or the coordinator contact sowiso@uni-mainz.de for registration (we need your student ID/Matrikelnummer therefore).
Inhalt: The Academic Boosting Class aims at supporting exchange students and international students during their studies in Mainz. It consists of two workshops that can be attended independently of each other. 3 ECTS are awarded only for attendance of both workshops and the completion of the course work. 20th April: Make a flying start: Studying social sciences in Mainz (1. Workshop) Content: Participants are provided with everything they need during the semester: They learn how academic courses at FB02 usually work and what expectations lecturers have. They find out where to get the seminar literature and how to give a good presentation. Participants can also clarify remaining questions and - last but not least - network with peers. 2nd August: Term papers: Academic writing for internationals" (2. Workshop) Content: This workshop aims at supporting international students to successfully complete their stay in Mainz and return home with good grades. Participants will learn the common requirements for "Hausarbeiten” (term papers) and receive help to find and correctly use suitable literature and develop an outline. On 9 August, there will be individual counselling sessions where participants can get individual support with their homework projects.
