Requirements / organisational issues:
This course is aimed at PhD students of the Graduate School "Symmetry Breaking". Diploma and master students who have already attended lectures in particle physics or quantum field theory are also welcome.
Contents:
This lecture comprises theoretical and experimental concepts of flavour physics, in particular neutrino physics. The list of topics to be discussed includes:
- Introduction (open questions, neutrinos in the Standard Model)
- Dirac and Majorana neutrinos (theoretical background, tests of right-handed sector, double beta decay)
- Quantum mechanical mixing (oscillation mechanisms, OMNS matrix, matter effects)
- CP violation (concept, leptogenesis)
- Lepton flavor violation
- Cosmology and neutrinos
- Future experiments
Recommended reading list:
Literature will be provided in the first lecture and the webpage below.
