Requirements / organisational issues:
This course is aimed at both diploma or master students as well as PhD students of the Graduate School "Symmetry Breaking".
Contents:
The lecture aims to give an introduction to the physics of the Higgs boson (both theory and experiments). A basic knowledge of particle physics is required for this lecture. At the end of the semester, master students can participate in a Blockpraktikum analyzing LHC Higgs data. The combination of lecture and Blockpraktikum can be included in the master as a "Forschungsmodul".
Contents:
- Spontaneous symmetry breaking, Higgs mechanism
- Phenomenology of the Higgs boson
- Precision measurements and the Higgs boson
- Experiments to search, discover and measure the Higgs boson
- Higgs sectors beyond the Standard Model
