This seminar focuses upon the developments in Jesus scholarship in the English-speaking world over the past few decades. In particular, attention will be given to the questions surrounding historical Jesus studies, Jesus and memory, Jesus and Christology, and „invested“ readings (e.g., the political, feminist, queer Jesus). The aim of this seminar is thus to introduce students to significant, English-language scholars of and works on Jesus and to develop a greater appreciation of the international scope of research on the central figure in Christianity.
The seminar will meet as a Blockseminar towards the beginning and the end of the semester. Between the two meetings of the seminar, and in order to fulfill the requisite 69 hours of "Selbststudium" for the course, students will prepare for a debate concerning a current, disputed topic in Jesus scholarship and write a ca. 5 page short paper reflecting on the issue being debated. In addition, a poster presentation of an important Jesus book will be prepared and presented to the class.

Das Seminar möchte die in der Lehrstrategie Ev. Theologie vereinbarte Bemühung um englischsprachige Lehrveranstaltungen umsetzen.
Auch in der Exegese sind viele weichenstellenden Impulse aus der englischsprachigen Welt gekommen, wesentliche Publikationen sind nicht übersetzt und sollten auch im Original gelesen werden.
Für Studierende der Anglistik kann zudem das Fachvokabular Theologie erweitert werden.
