Contents:
In this course, we will have a look at as many facets of the British film industry as possible: genre films and art house cinema as well as that staple of British film practice, heritage cinema. The aim of this course is two-fold: on the one hand, you will get an overview of the British film industry - its prominent directors, genres, practices and economic as well as cultural circumstances of production. On the other hand, this course is meant to provide you with a basic toolbox for the analysis of films - you will get to know technical terms as well as some fundamental narratological and poetological concepts of film studies.
