The U.S. American South is not only a geographic area but also a highly mystified cultural construct, which has been shaped through its history and distinct literature. This course explores different literary texts from southern authors and puts them into context with the social structures they evolved in. We will read texts by a variety of authors, including Kate Chopin, Alice Walker, William Faulkner, Percival Everet, and Tennessee Williams.
