This course is designed to teach advanced academic writing skills. The course addresses two distinct compositional categories: examination/assessment and research-based, academic argumentative writing. Students will hone a number of stylistic, structural, and mechanical skills for writing, such as creating a thesis, using idiomatic expression, acknowledging purpose and audience, structuring argument, building paragraphs, offering constructive criticism, and implementing feedback. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their writing skills across four academic formats: the annotated bibliography, abstract, first draft/outline, and research paper.
