Requirements / organisational issues:
A basic understanding of thermodynamic processes in the atmosphere as well as cloud microphysics (equivalent to the respective mandatory courses in the meteorology bachelor programme) is assumed.
Contents:
The lecture deals with the role of clouds and aerosols for climate and weather. Starting from a description of the evolution of hydrometeor and aerosol particle populations and their representation in current weather and climate models, the interaction of clouds and aerosols with atmospheric radiation and atmospheric dynamics are discussed. A special focus is placed on aerosol-cloud interactions.
Digital teaching:
The lecture will be delivered in a digital-only format. The pre-recorded lectures will be made available via panopto. Assignments and questions to both lectures and assignemtns will be discussed in a weekly meeting on MS Teams.
The link to the lecture room on MS Teams will be provided upon request via mail to A. Miltenberger.
