Contents:
This seminar is intended as an introductory survey course in American cultural and intellectual history from the early sixteenth to the late nineteenth century. Addressing beginners in American studies, this class will introduce students to major cultural, social, and political developments during three centuries of American history. Reading a selection of primary texts, students will examine and explore key themes and debates in American cultural history. Additional readings and visual materials will provide students with the respective historical background to the issues discussed in class.
