This course is designed to introduce students to literatures corresponding to various social justice movements in the United States in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Students will develop a working knowledge of several social justice movements and the works of fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction that highlight these struggles and call for change. We will cover literature in relation to Native American, African American, women’s, LGBTQ+, Chicanx and Latinx, Asian American, and disability rights struggles.
