Requirements / organisational issues:
The course is aimed at master students.

There will be 3 hours of lecture and 1 hour of excercises. The excercies will be held in the form of a seminar.

Contents:
In this lecture an introduction to classical astro physics will be given.
The lecture has three main parts:

1) Radiation and observation techniques

2) Astro physics of single stars

3) Development of stars

ad 1) We will discuss electromagnetic radiation, the different parts of the spectrum and the corresponding detection methods and introduce classical and modern instrumentation.

ad 2) Starting from the sun as an example for a typical main sequence star the main properties, the physics parameters and the classification of stars will be described. The corresponding
techniques will be introduced.

ad 3) In this part the develpment of stars from gas clouds up to the different final states will be discussed. Here we will also cover the formation of planetary systems.
