Requirements / organisational issues:
Basic knowledge of quantum field theory is required.
Contents:
The course gives an introduction to flavour physics of quarks and leptons and also into the necessary effective field theoretical methods used in this field.
Besides basic topics like the flavour structure of the SM and CP violation, neutrino masses and oscillations, strong CP problem and Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC), we will also discuss the indirect search for new degrees of freedom beyond the SM via flavour observables and address modern issues like possible violation of lepton flavour universality.
Furthermore, we will introduce the effective field theories like the electroweak Hamiltonian (WET), the effective theory of the standard model (SMEFT), and soft collinear effective theory (SCET), which are necessary for the description of flavour observables.
