Contents:
This course provides an introduction to quantum field theory, appropriate for advanced BSc students or beginning MSc students in physics.  Students are expected to have completed courses in classical mechanics, classical electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, thermal physics and statistical physics, and mathematics including real and complex analysis.

Topics to be discussed:

Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations

Scalar fields

Fermion spinors, Dirac algebra, fermion fields

Green's functions

Vector fields, Abelian gauge theory

Canonical quantization

Correlation functions, time-ordered products

Quantum electrodynamics

Loop calculations

Dimensional regularization

Pauli-Villars regularization

Ward-Takahashi identities

Ultraviolet and infrared divergences in QED

Renormalization of QED

Charge renormalization in QED

Wavefunction renormalization in QED
