Requirements / organisational issues:
Solid state Physics deals with the physical principles of a large number of chemically bound atoms in the solid state of matter. The large number of atoms/ electrons requires the introduction of simplified models, which despite the reqired approximations allow for a quantitative description of many typical material properties in solid matter. The aim of this lecture is to introduce the most important models and thereby to enable the understanding recent developments in research and technology.

This course will typically consist of 2 SWS of classical lecture plus 2 SWS of combined blended learning and exercise course. This means that the students are required to study part of the content of the lecture at home based on provided learning material. The associated additional study time is compensated by on-site only exercises, which will be solved in small groups supported by the lecturers/ Postdocs. Students are expected to participate actively and present recaps or homework spontaneously at least once during the semester to be admitted to the written exam.
