Compulsory attendance:
For the practical exercises (2-3 sessions) attendance is required

Contents:
This course will give an in-depth introduction to the basics of particle detection and all types of modern particle detectors. In addition to a detailed discussion of the various detector technologies there will be a particular emphasis on modern particle detectors, as they are used in particle physics, medical applications and other areas.
The lecture is complemented by practical excercises with modern detectors.

Interactions of particles with matter

Ionisation detectors: wire chambers, TPCs and silicon detectors

Cherenkov radiation

Transition radiation

Scintillation detectors

Calorimeters

General purpose detectors
