The course is designed for students who do not yet have the necessary mathematical background to be able to
follow the lecture cycle "Mathematics for physicists". It recapitulates the high school mathematics at the level
of the "Leistungskurs"(intensified course). In additional, it offers additional training in the topics of the class
"mathematical methods"
Contents:
Among other, the following topics will be covered
• Notations and notion of numbers: Natural, rational, real, complex numbers
• Polynomials, exponential function and logarithm, trigonometric functions, hyperbolic functions
• Linear systems of equations, matrices, determinants
• Vectors, scalar product, vector product, spat product
• Linear coordinate transformations
• Polar coordinates, cylindrical coordinates, spherical coordinates
• Sequences and series, power series
• Differentiation and integration with one variable
• Functions of more than one variable, partial derivative and total derivative
• Taylor expansion
• Multidimensional integration, transformation rule for integrals for coordinate changes
• Examples of ordinary linear differential equations
